Selection of Niche for Your Blog

by Bobby Jay

Selection of Niche for your blog is very crucial as it will decide your success or failure. It has been observed that websites on general topics attract less traffic as compared to websites on niche because they are very specific and are focused on a single topic or area. Niche websites will attract fewer visitors as compared to General Websites, but the visitors have high interest in your website and are very loyal to your website.

So it is clear that careful Selection of niche is a milestone towards success. But how to find suitable topic for your website? Changing idea from time to time will create bad impact and you will not be able to concentrate on idea due to non clarity. This article is aimed to facilitate selection of suitable niche for your blog to avoid a step towards failure.

  • Select such a niche that is not limited to some particular geographical location. For example, if you select Cell phone as topic for your blog, it is not limited to any region but starvation or baseball is geographical based. Such sites attract very small traffic and you may not achieve your desired goals. Don’t further narrow your target market.
  • Second step is to list all the topics in which you are interested. Then select two or three topics that you think you like more.
  • Are you technical person? Do you have all technical information of that particular subject? If answer is No, promptly eliminate that topic from list.
  • Deeply think on your selection and concentrate on ideas. Now write down ten to fifteen articles on selected list of topics within time frame of a week. Repeat this process for complete list.
  • Now critically analyze the contents, quality, time taken to finish articles and your comfort level in your selected area. Keep in mind, don’t select such topics for which writing few articles, your information and knowledge is exhausted. Judge yourself, do you have extra information after writing so much articles on it.
  • In the end, you will come up with a result that is more suitable for your blog and you will have an inventory of good number of  quality article.

Take advantage of them and Post one by one or schedule them for posting. Meanwhile you start your work on composing other scripts for your blog. Try to keep two or three articles in your inventory to avoid some busy day.

An article a day, keeps zero traffic away :)  Have a nice blog.

Great post. Another thing is you want to choose a niche that you won’t get sick of quickly. Unless you are doing it as a blog flip, you are going to need to be writing about this for a long time. So choose something you are passionate about.

It took me a long time to settle on my niche and there’s a lot to be said for letting it evolve naturally rather than trying to force it. I think you can write about different things and in different tones (rant, comedy) as long as you relate it back to your main focus. Great thinking Imran, this is a common problem.

Annabel, for a newbie, niche selection is a great problem. Its true that it evolves with passage of time, but we can speedup this process by doing some home work. Instead of frequently changing niche, its good to have an idea of your area of interest to start writing for blog.
Thanks for your valuable contribution.
