Every second a new blog is created and added in the list of blogs. A sudden question arises about survival of these blogs. If blog creation rate is too high then there should be overwhelming number of blogs on internet. Fact is, most of them are unable to survive their existence. They lack various things which are crucial for blog survival.
Have you ever studies the survival of Ants in such a world where living environment is tough for them. Due to their size their survival should be a question mark but they have abilities that make them to survive for long time until they naturally die.
What are the things to learn to learn from them that might help us in survival of blogs? We need to explore and find out the factors responsible for survival. Let’s explore & discuss these factors in blogging perspective.
Hardworking
Do you know ants can lift weight up to 20 times of its own? They don’t sleep though they take power naps throughout the day. This level of hard work with commitment enabled them to survive for such long time period. They don’t compromise on work. Doesn’t matter what is working environment, what is atmosphere, what is temperature over earth. They only know one thing; they have to work in all conditions.
Blogging is not an easy job. It is full of stress and needs hard work with dedication. Writing and publishing articles on daily basis is not Childs’ play. If you are already following this routine don’t think so that you have done very well. Keep in mind this is routine work in blogging career. There are other factors which need to be done along with content creation.
You are also required to brainstorm and write pillar articles. You need specific environment to write. You need to find out your productive working hours. If content production was so easy, everyone would be involved in this work and everyone’s blog would be a successful one. It’s better to have a pen and pocket size draft pad every time to note down the idea or theme when splashed during routine life.
Never Give Up
I think I am not supposed to produce the Ant’s story of Try, Try and try again. They never give up rather they perform that activity till they complete that task.
This is the core point that makes a blogger successful one. Patience with never give up attitude leads to guaranteed success; doesn’t matter sooner or later. Your site is not attracting the traffic, don’t worry. Continue hard work in right direction and you will succeed one day. Some take six months; some require one-two years to be a successful. Just concentrate on writing and polishing your writing skills. When you feel you are exhausted due to no traffic specially and some other reason generally, take a break of one week and enjoy this time. Go with your friends, watch movies and visit amusement parks. You will feel fresh and when you return to your blogging life, you will be recharged with new enthusiasm because you decided to put more efforts and not to give up. Even we do feel exhausted some time and immediately start performing other tasks that are our favorite to eliminate the exhaustion element at once.
This is a technique to get rid of this feeling at initial stage. Don’t force yourself to work when you feel fatigue or you will be advanced to next stage which is not desired at all and is responsible for 99% of blogging failure cases.
Networking & Socialization
Ants work in a community that is called colony. Every ant has its own community. They do know each other and can trace each other by way of leaving some signals like smell etc. They are unknowingly following the quotation “No Man is an Island”.
Same is the situation with bloggers. We need to work in a community and promote one others’ work. Like of a newbie become easy if he has support of a problogger or of an established community. Use various social networking sites to create contacts. Twitter and facebook are on top of them. Other famous social networking sites are Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit etc. Join and participate in forums. You would have great opportunity if you can help anyone.
Make a strong relationship with your fellow bloggers, communicate with them via e-mail. Promote their work and they will reciprocate it.
Save for Winter
Winter is the season in which ants can’t survive if they don’t go underground. Then how do they fulfill their and others eating need? Answer is very simple. They store food for the situation when they can’t go for daily work and being underground is beneficial for them. What is the lesson for us?
Which season is winter for bloggers? A situation when we can’t write and publish is winters’ season for bloggers. Such situation can arise due to some emergency or when we need to go for a break or when we are going for refreshment.
Keep some articles in your inventory to manage such situations and to continue your posting frequency. Schedule your articles when you are going away and use the time stamp feature of WordPress to automatically get it published in scheduled dates.
Specialization
What this word specialization has to do with ants? Do ants specialize in some work? Different type of ants within same community, perform different assignments and are given names based on their nature of work. Fire ants, army ants, leaf cutter ants are some of their well known types.
This is the main point which we need to focus. A blogger can’t be expert in all areas like designing, dealing with web hosting problems, content writing, and content promotion. It’s better to have a blogging partner, if budget is tight. Probloggers have special team for web site designing and its maintenance, server related issues, content writing and proof reading and specially marketing team.

I love the illustration of the ant Imran. The point that resonates with me the most is: Don’t give up! This is the true test of blogging. If you can make it through the first 3-6 months you can make it for the long haul.
Your observation is exactly right. Don’t give up approach for first year ensures that blogger would be successful one day. Set the goal for first year and try to achieve at least 70% of objective. That’s a tremendous success for a blogger.
I like this Thesis customization. Did you guys make this yourself or start from a Thesis skin?
Back on topic… I like the ant analogy. It’s certainly hard to be successful as a lone blogger these days with the responsibilities of content creation, web design, graphic design, and SEO, among others. I’ve learned a fair amount about all of these elements, but being a jack of all trades, master of none is not really a recipe for success.
Thanks Jarret for your liking. As far as customization of this theme is concerned, this is my work started from scratch and still trying to further add some customization. If you read my previous post, you will find whole process plus features of current skin development. If you want to check some awesome thesis skins,do visit it.

Now coming back to main part of your comment. I think there is no need to further discuss the importance of community, network and blogging partner. It’s really very tough to be successful without having a partner in blogging career. Sooner or later, this factor shows its importance. Either to select some blogging partner or be ready for outsourcing.
Staying focused and refusing to accept defeat is the path to surviving in the blogosphere. If your mindset is locked on success, allowing nothing to deter you efforts it becomes a simple matter of time.
Jimi, this is mind set highly required for bloggers to avoid defeat. It takes time to be a successful, while defeat can be achieved in no time just by losing hope.
It’s nice to see you here again. Thanks for your comment.
Superb post as usual. Its very inspiring indeed and gives a direction whoever wishes to be problogger. I’m seeing it in no time you’re gona be a problogger.
It was interesting reading the analogy tightly corelating with blogging life! But I guess, there are lots of winter if you are not full time blogger or needs to be out of station frequently for your day time office job!
Wish you a sure success!
“Many Winters” Very well said. your observation is right but such life needs more hard work. Like dragonblogger, he has full time job beside his blogging life. By the way thanks Suresh for your compliment.
Hi Imran
Come to visit your site from Bloggerluv which to me is a great community for this newbie.
Love your analogy of the ant. I am fairly new to blogging but realise I need passion for my chosen niche, persistance when the journey gets bumpy and patience as there is so much to learn.
I love writing but find the techie stuff hard so soon as I monetize my blog and earning an income from it I will outsource that side of things.
Being a part of the blogging community already makes me feel not alone in the quest to have a successful blog in my chosen niche.

Hi Patricia good to see you here. We have lot of things to get inspiration from and I found that Ant’s survival till this time is result of some abilities that almighty God has gifted to them. Why we can’t learn from them. You need to be patient for first six months at least, and you will be successful to build a community around your blog. Keep posting great stuff as per your posting frequency. I can watch the response to your blog and for a new blogger that’s much appreciable.
Keep it up.
Imran, what an awesome analogy you have given here. I love the parallels you drew between consistency and the little things.
Came over from BE – very happy to tweet and share this too my friend
Awesome

Alex, we need to think about the things around us. It’s really interesting that world’s one of the weak creature is surviving and worlds’ strongest creature eliminated and became a part of history. We have many sources of motivation and inspiration.
Thanks for your comments.
